We are members of the American Hosta Society. Bobby will be attending the 2004 American Hosta Society National Convention in Des Moines, Iowa in June to tour the gardens and to produce several new hosta videos. Last year the Happy Moose produced our first two hosta videos when we featured Van Wade's hosta nursery in Ohio, and a few gardens in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
2004 is our first year growing hostas at the new Happy Moose Gardens. Currently all of our hostas are being grown in pots while we clear and thin a wooded section of our property in the front yard. A list of the hostas in our garden is featured below.
International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants
(February, 2004)
Chapter III: Indication of Status
Article 13: Cultivar Status
13.1. Cultivar status is to be indicated by enclosing the cultivar epithet within single quotation marks. Double quotation marks, and the abbreviations cv. and var. are not to be used with a name to distinguish cultivar epithets: such use is to be corrected
Note 1. Single quotation marks are generally effected typographically either by using (‘) at the beginning and (’) at the end of an epithet as used throughout this Code, or alternatively by use of the apostrophe (') or other demarcation device such as (´) on each side of the epithet.
Ex.1. Hosta ‘Guacamole’, Hosta 'Guacamole', or Hosta ´Guacamole´, not Hosta “Guacamole”, Hosta cv. Guacamole, or Hosta var. Guacamole etc.
